Douglas Neumetzger says:
We're really stumped. We had a LJ2200 in place to print sheets of labels. The printer would go through about 10 sheets of labels and then would start pausing for several seconds before it would feed another sheet...the Windows98 spooler would show that the job was complete (completely fed into the printer I presume) so my finger points to the printer. As a test we replaced the LJ2200 with a LJ4100 and the printer would go further (perhaps 20 sheets) and the pauses were shorter (perhaps 1 second between sheets vs. several seconds) but as time went on, the pauses get longer and longer.{Ed: later}
I think we may have gotten a resolution (sort of). ...we've tried hooking up these printers in a variety of ways, including an external JetDirect, an internal JetDirect and through a parallel cable to the Win98 PC (which has plenty of free space). After spending quite of bit of time on the phone with tech support yesterday (and tech support consulting with Engineering) we thing that the media being used (labels) is causing a buildup of heat in the fuser. Apparently the printer automatically goes into a "slowdown mode" in order to prevent drastic overheating. If we print the same job on plain paper (rather than labels) we rarely see the problem, so I'm inclined to think that this is the issue...there doesn't seem to be a resolution, although there is a setting to lower the fuser temperature and we may try that. Thanks for your reply.
